Q: WHAT IS CEREMONIAL CACAO?
A: Ceremonial cacao is 100% cacao paste of the highest quality. It is made from heirloom strains of cacao native to central and South America. Cacao ceremonies culturally take root to indigenous communities from Central and South America and ceremonial cacao is intentionally made to serve this purpose paying homage to traditional practices of production and consumption.
Q: HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?
A: How much you consume depends on whats the occasion. For a meditation, the average dose recommended is 22-30g. For a ceremonial dose, we recommend 40-50g. After 50g, especially for those who are just beginning their journey with cacao, it can cause headaches, nausea, and stomach discomfort due to its detoxifying effects.
Q: HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DRINK CACAO?
A: When building a relationship with a new plant medicine or herb, consistency is key. One of the co-founders, Florencia, spent the last few years drinking cacao everyday, creating what is called a dieta; avoiding for the most part dairy, animal meat, and gluten. Drinking Cacao every morning a few hours before a meal. The amount is important to consider. When having Cacao everyday, a meditation dose is plenty. We recommend having ceremonial doses no more than 3 times per week, especially when beginning to ceremonial drink Cacao.
Q: WHO SHOULD AVOID CONSUMING OF CACAO IN LARGE QUANTITIES?
A: individuals currently taking any SSRIs medication, antidepressants, low blood pressure medication, or those undergoing chemotherapy treatment should not drink more than a meditation dose. The combination of medication and Cacao can cause adverse effects when consumed in higher doses.
Women who are pregnant should not drink more than 15-20g of pure Cacao to prevent any issues.
Q: DOES CEREMONIAL GRADE CACAO CONTAIN CAFFEINE?
A: The main stimulating ingredient in Cacao is Theobromine, it is in the same family as caffeine, however its much more gentle on the adrenal glands, nervous system, and much more alkalizing. Some strains of Cacao contain caffeine as well. Land-raised strains from Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, and Belize have little to no caffeine, this is the Cacao recommended for ceremonial experiences.
